Meet Igal Svet
Igal Svet is an award-winning executive producer, buyer, and creative leader with two decades of experience redefining nonfiction storytelling across film and television. Recognized for his deep relationships with many of the industry’s leading documentary filmmakers and premium production companies, Svet has been instrumental in partnering with visionary directors to craft bold, premium nonfiction projects for platforms eager to push the boundaries of storytelling.
In 2023, Svet founded Night Owl Pictures, a next-generation, artist-centered production company dedicated to bold, innovative storytelling. Under the Night Owl banner, Svet developed, sold, and executive produced Born to Be Viral: The Real Lives of Kidfluencers, which premiered on Hulu and Freeform in 2025. Shot over five years, with exclusive access to top families on YouTube including kidfluencer powerhouse Like Nastya, Mormon OG family vloggers The Fisher Family, The McClure Family and their Forbes Top Kidfluencer twins and others, this series pulls back the curtain on the real lives of kid influencers and their families. How far will the pursuit of likes and followers push these families? And when these kids grow up, will it have been worth it?
As EVP and Head of Documentaries at Blackfin, he expanded Lionsgate’s unscripted slate, developing projects across nearly every major streaming platform and cable network. Notable titles include the hit true-crime documentary series Death in Apartment 603: What Happened to Ellen Greenberg? (Hulu’s #1 premiere), an upcoming investigative documentary for HBO Max, and the high-profile food travel series Tony Shalhoub: Breaking Bread (CNN). In this role, Svet oversaw creative strategy, development, and business execution across the studio’s documentary slate, building a pipeline of content that engaged audiences worldwide.
Previously, as Head of Documentaries at Discovery+, Svet built and executed an ambitious nonfiction strategy that delivered more than 50 acclaimed titles, including Introducing Selma Blair, Rebel Hearts, Francesco, Shaun White: The Last Run, The Truth About Jim, House of Hammer, and Trump: Unprecedented, all of which combined compelling storytelling with commercial success. Svet’s approach emphasized both creative risk-taking and audience engagement, positioning the platform as a leader in nonfiction content.
At National Geographic, Svet led the network’s pivot to premium documentary storytelling, overseeing the development of landmark projects such as the Oscar-winning Free Solo, the BAFTA-winning Jane, the Emmy-winning LA92, and hit series including The Story of God with Morgan Freeman, Mars, and One Strange Rock, which collectively represent some of the network's highest-rated and most talked-about programming. His leadership emphasized innovation, global storytelling, and the elevation of documentary content to reach both critical and popular acclaim.
Born To Be Viral: The Real Lives of Kidfluencers
Following the journey of the first generation of children whose entire upbringing has been shared online by their parents often to millions of people, with some families earning millions of dollars.
Shot over five years, with exclusive access to top creators, this series pulls back the curtain on the real lives of kid influencers and their families. How far will the pursuit of likes and followers push these families? And when these kids grow up, will it have been worth it?
Series executive producer Igal Svet says that he got involved with the project “to help pull back the curtain on a world of fame, fortune, and pressure, where likes and followers can earn families millions, but not without consequences. My hope is that viewers find the series wildly entertaining while it also sparks a meaningful conversation. Kid influencing is here to stay, and for many, it offers a real shot at the American Dream. The question isn’t whether families should participate, but how we, as a society, can help them chase that dream while protecting what matters most: family bonds, privacy, and, most importantly, their children.”
